Episode 9: Limitations of Freedom of Expression

In the ninth episode of Radio Scissors, Nargess Tavassolian speaks about the legal conditions and limitations of freedom of expression, both conceptually and in practice. She begins by providing definitions of three main limitations, along with critical conditions, that are embedded in the theory of freedom of expression. She presents a few international case studies in her talk in order to highlight these limitations in practice. Further, she talks about specific violations of freedom of expression in today’s Iran, while emphasizing the critical structural barriers of governance in the way of expression.

Nargess Tavassolian is a human rights lawyer. She is a PhD graduate in Law at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London. She is also a legal consultant and legal affairs correspondent for IranWire and Centre for Supporters of Human Rights.
