Episode 8: Freedom of Expression in Arts

In the eighth episode of Radio Scissors, Nazanin Pouyandeh speaks about freedom of expression in arts. She begins by providing a definition of freedom in arts that varies for different artists. She further emphasizes on the distinction that exists between the absolute freedom that is embedded in the creation of arts versus the decision and the freedom to showcase a piece of art. Further, she talks about the status of arts in Iran, and the ways in which various artists experience cultural, social and historic limitations.

Nazanin Pouyandeh
Born in Tehran in 1981, Nazanin Pouyandeh immigrated to France after the death of her father, a translator and essayist who was killed by the Iranian government. Her sensual and compelling paintings have been exhibited both in Iran, and internationally.
